Role Summary
As a Safety Coordinator at Astral, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety programmes to ensure a safe working environment for all staff and visitors. You will conduct safety inspections, train employees on safety protocols, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. Your work will directly support the safe and efficient delivery of fusion research and nuclear medicine, helping to maintain Astral’s commitment to the highest standards of workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement comprehensive safety policies and procedures.
Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards.
Train employees on proper safety practices and emergency procedures.
Investigate accidents or incidents to determine causes and recommend preventive measures.
Maintain records of safety-related incidents, training sessions, and compliance activities.
Ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations (e.g., HSE, OSHA, IRR-17) and company standards.
Collaborate with management to develop strategies for improving workplace safety.
Coordinate emergency response drills and ensure readiness for potential emergencies.
Provide guidance on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Stay updated on industry best practices related to workplace safety.
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred).
Certification in occupational health & safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA) is highly desirable.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role within an industrial, laboratory, or manufacturing setting.
Strong knowledge of UK and international regulations regarding workplace safety.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to train others effectively.
Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and strong problem-solving abilities.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
